What is a CSA?
CSA, or community-supported agriculture, is a way for the local community to invest in a farm during the planting season in exchange for produce throughout the harvest season. That investment in the CSA program of a farm creates the ability for a farmer to buy seeds, soil amendments, and make investments into the farm for the upcoming season. Through this membership investment, members not only receive fresh vegetables and fruits, but they will be fostering a deeper connection with where their food comes from, by building a relationship with the people that have their hands in the soil and grow their food.
The CSA model has been an important part of my life; from working on 5 CSA-centric farms, writing a master’s thesis about the CSA model in the NE United States, to being a board member for a local CSA coalition (PNWCSA), I have dedicated my life and work to promoting and operating CSAs. In the words of Wendell Berry, “The farmer lives and works in the meeting place of nature and the human economy.” I want to be the bridge between that natural space and the people consuming food from the farm. I would like for CSA members to learn about where there food comes from, be in conversation with the farm and the farmer, and celebrate the successes and the failures that occur during the farm season. My goal is to connect with members personally to learn their likes and dislikes, and to grow as a farmer to meet the wants and needs of the people I am feeding. To me, CSA exists to fight against the farm business model guided solely by profit and driven by capitalism. Instead, I would like Silly Goose Farms to cultivate relationships and foster connections to the local community.
When you join the Silly Goose Farms CSA for the 2026 season, you can look forward to:
22 week of farm fresh produce! The CSA will run from the week of June 3rd until the week of November 4th. I will plan to take one distribution off either at the end of August or beginning of September to give space for dried bean harvest (this date will be communicated closer to it’s happening)
Shares sizes will include 6-8 items weekly, supplying enough vegetables for a 2-3 person household, and will provide vegetables based on what is in season. The shares will vary each week and will focus on popular and familiar vegetables while also striving to connect shareholders to interesting, new and exciting varieties! (please expect some unique heirloom beans…one of Silly Goose’s favorits crops to grow!)
